FSIP takes mental health seriously and is run by qualified and accredited Psychotherapists who understand the local culture as well as what is required of volunteers. Read below for details of board members.
Jeni Whittaker – Director
Jeni is a qualified and UKCP accredited Psychotherapist trained in Transpersonal Integrative modalities. She lived in London for 10 years and worked for the NHS in a GP surgery as well as in private practice and in Waterloo Community Counselling with refugees, asylum seekers and immigrants. She uses Spanish, Portuguese and French as well as English and also speaks basic Russian and Persian. She is qualified as an Imago Relationship Counsellor and NLP Master and has completed the Imago Workshop Presenter training. Jeni has experience working in a Psychiatric setting in Wales, the UK and Africa and volunteered in la Prison Civile de Lome in November/December 2015 after which she set up FSIP. She is now based in Galway, Ireland where the charity is registered, and runs a research business as well as practising as a Psychotherapist for Let’s Get Talking Galway, Galway Traveller Movement and in private practice as Soul Focus Therapy.
Clara Slattery – Director
Clara is a qualified Psychotherapist and pre-accredited member of IACP. She trained with the Tivoli Institute in Dublin and works using a range of approaches and modalities in her therapeutic work. She has 11 years of experience in providing emotional support to clients in a one on one setting and previously worked for charity Ruhama, as well as undertaking various research projects in different settings. Clara has extensive experience in working with asylum seekers, refugees and prisoners and uses English, German and Spanish. Clara volunteered in la Prison Civile de Lome in September 2016 after joining the board of FSIP in May 2016. She now works in private practice in Ennis as Clare Therapy and for Pieta House.
Laura Payne – Trustee
Laura is a qualified and UKCP, BACP accredited Psychotherapist and Supervisor. Previously a Journalist and Writer, she trained in Transpersonal Integrative Psychotherapy in London and then went on to become a Supervisor and a Life Coach and Mindfulness Coach and Practitioner. Laura frequently supervises on student weekends such as the Gestalt 3 days at CCPE in London and runs her own workshops. She works in private practice as Laura Payne Psychotherapy. Laura became an FSIP Trustee in December 2016, bringing with her a wonderful amount of legal and strategic advice and experience. Laura is based in the UK and is the go-to person for Psychotherapists based in the UK and wishing to volunteer in Africa.
